I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your October.
I didn't get a chance to post last week but, I wanted to share some things from our Thursday wing program with you. We had some conversations around positive self image, self forgiveness, and resiliance. We discussed some of the common roadblocks to to positive self image that IMSA students face, such as perfectionism, pressure to perform academically, and over-involvement in clubs and activities. These things can conjure feelings of exhaustion, anxiety, and inadequacy, and failure in students. We talked about strategies for combatting these feelings. Strategies like setting attainable goals and reasonable involvement limits, learning to say 'no', positive self talk, and forgiving ourselves when we feel we've failed. The students' responses to some of our discussion prompts can be viewed in the word cloud images below.
This week we will continue our discussion as we talk about developing resiliance in the face of rejection, a concept the sophomores began exploring yesterday in Navigation.
For this week's optional program, my fellow 1504 RC, Ethan Castro, will be streaming the the final Presidential Debate between President Donald Trump and challenger and former VP Joe Biden for the 1504 students on our hall discord server.
That's all for now. I'm out!
